WHO WE ARE

ABOUT SERVIR Tropical South America

Building on work initiated by SERVIR Amazonia in 2019, SERVIR Tropical South America (formerly SERVIR Amazonia) has developed geospatial services, tools, and capacity-building across Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Guyana, Suriname, and via regional capacity building workshops in the Caribbean. As part of the SERVIR Global Collaborative, it carries forward SERVIR’s legacy, building locally led science-based decision support in areas like land cover monitoring, fire and drought risk, water resources, and ecosystem resilience, now operating independently of U.S. government funding and structured around regional leadership and co‑development.

Geospatial service innovation

To support climate adaptation, disaster resilience, food security, water management, and more.

Regional capacity strengthening

Through training, mentorship, and knowledge co-development.

Collaborative problem-solving

Rooted in local needs and informed by cutting-edge science.

Sustained partnerships and open access

To data, tools, and platforms for impact at scale.

the Network

SERVIR Tropical South America is based on the long-term commitment of its five main partners: the Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), the Spatial Informatics Group (SIG) in the United States, Amazon Conservation (ACCA) in Peru, the Institute of Forest and Agricultural Management and Certification (IMAFLORA) in Brazil, and EcoCiencia Foundation in Ecuador.

Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT)

Alliance Bioversity & CIAT

The Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) delivers research-based solutions that harness agricultural biodiversity and sustainably transform food systems to improve people’s lives. Alliance solutions address the global crises of malnutrition, climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation. With novel partnerships, the Alliance generates evidence and mainstream innovations to transform food systems and landscapes so that they sustain the planet, drive prosperity, and nourish people. The Alliance is part of CGIAR, a global research partnership for a food-secure future.
Spatial Informatics Group (SIG)

Spatial Informatics Group - SIG

Spatial Informatics Group – SIG, a US-based environmental think tank, established in 1998, brings together scientists with expertise in geospatial analysis, environmental and socio economic sciences. SIG’s goal is to help stakeholders make informed management, land use, and policy decisions by converting spatial data into knowledge that they can use in a world with ever-changing environmental conditions. The think tank provides a wide range of geospatial expertise in areas such as ecology, forestry, wildfire risk and hazard management, environmental economics, urban and regional planning, natural resources, water resource management and ecosystem functions.

ACCA

Asociación para la Conservación de la Cuenca Amazónica (ACCA)

Asociación para la Conservación de la Cuenca Amazónica (ACCA) is a Peruvian nonprofit dedicated to Amazonian conservation, sustainable livelihoods, and applied research since 1999. With offices in Lima, Madre de Dios, and Cusco, and three biological research stations, ACCA advances science-based conservation from the Andes to the lowland Amazon. Its work spans habitat protection, environmental monitoring, community engagement, and capacity building. ACCA leads the Monitoring of the Andean Amazon Project (MAAP), providing near real-time deforestation alerts using satellite data to inform policy and action. It collaborates with national and regional partners across Peru, Bolivia, and the U.S. to support biodiversity and environmental resilience in critical hotspots.
Imaflora

IMAFLORA - Institute for Forest and Agriculture Management and Certification

IMAFLORA (Institute for Forest and Agriculture Management and Certification) is a Brazilian nonprofit promoting sustainable forestry and agriculture since 1995. It supports ecosystem management, biodiversity protection, and climate-resilient land use through mapping, policy support, and environmental certification. IMAFLORA also advances open government principles, emphasizing transparency, participation, and accountability in shaping forest, agriculture, and climate policies. Their tracking systems for sustainable supply chains complement SERVIR’s remote sensing tools to monitor human activity and land use impacts.
